Iyengar Yoga Description

Yoga is a way of life which cultivates the mind of the practitioner, encouraging the fulfillment of one’s own potential. It is a self discipline which enhances physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

 

Practicing yoga asanas (postures) improves concentration, balance, flexibility, strength and endurance while benefiting joints, muscles, nerves and internal organs. One’s whole system is rejuvenated through focused effort.

 

 

 

 

At The Yoga Studio on Rosewall we practice according to the teachings of

B.K.S. Iyengar who is recognized as one of the foremost contemporary yoga masters. He lives in Pune, India where students from around the world study at his Institute. Through precise alignment, weak areas of the body are encouraged to strengthen and stiff areas are stretched, thus awakening and realigning the whole body. As the body moves into better alignment, less muscular effort is required and relaxation in motion results, along with heightened awareness.
